Cougars Visit the Islanders On Nick Collins Memorial Night

The Cougars took a trip over the Malahat on Saturday night to take on the Islanders for the Annual Nick Collins Memorial Game. A night that means a lot to the Islanders organization, and Kerry Park as a whole. If you ever make it to the KP Rec Centre there is a wonderful display honouring this young man near the entrance.

Kerry Park are came into the game at 10-10 and 4th in the South. They do have several games in hand so their place in the playoff race is looking bright.

Just 1:26 into the game Ethan Roworth got the Cougars on the board. The Islanders did not sit idle after the quick goal. Mateo Sjoberg grabbed his 6th goal of the season on a 2 on 1. Brady Estagrook gave the Islanders the lead late in the period after scoring from behind the net. Check out the highlights below.

The middle frame was an even, back and forth, affair. The Islanders were the lone team to score, much to the chagrin of the Cougars. Cole Sloboda netted his 2nd of the year after a scramble fighting for a rebound off a point shot. The Cougars headed into the break down 2, but on the power play.

That power play was ultimately fruitless and the Islanders turned it around shortly after it expired. On a bad change for the Cougars the Islanders broke in 2on1 and Marko Tokic ripped his 6th of the year high to give the Islanders a 4-1 lead. Ben Brant just a minute later took a 5 and a game for head contact. The Cougars held off the attack on the major and a whole slew of penalties made the scorekeeper earn his keep but none led to any goals. The Cougars best chance was Jacob Pang with an open net but Demelo came flying across to close the opening and rob Pang of a sure-goal. This game ends 4-1 Kerry Park, and the Cougars fall for the 2nd time to the Islanders this year.
