A Winning Tradition Of Excellence

Six In A Row

The Cougars have now won 6 games in a row and have outscored their opponents 42-14.

The most recent win was a stark change from the last time the Cougars faced the Islanders. Just last Tuesday, in the Cougars last game, they took on the Islanders in Kerry Park, and completely thumped them. Cougars won that game 10-1 in a penalty filled slugfest.

Tonight’s KPI were a different team. Snagging the opening goal just 3 minutes into the game the Islanders played like a team who can go toe to toe with the best in the league. Both teams swapped chances, and penalties. While the Islanders still took a fair amount of penalties, they played much more disciplined. Monty Moreau did manage to put a damper on the Islanders play in the 1st. He grabbed the puck on a nice clear out and went in alone to grab the shortie.

The middle frame saw chances but no goals. It was the 3rd that things got interesting. The Islanders jumped out to the 3-2 lead early in the 3rd and looked to be flying high. That was until Monty Moreau played hero and tied the game up at 3. A late goal from Phillips on the PP dashed the Islanders hopes of an upset.

The game was far more entertaining than that 10-1 mess last week, but I am sure coach Chris Lynn wasn’t happy with the Cougars play. Some undisciplined play from the Cougars got the Islanders into the game far more than they should have. The Cougars have played 4 games in a row against teams far below them in the standings, and they do it again Thursday against Westshore. It will be interesting to see how they fair next week against much stronger opponents. Will they pick up their play? Or are they complacent? With games coming up against the Storm and Glacier Kings, those will be a good test for this team.
