The Cougars will face the Islanders in round 1 of the VIJHL playoffs this year. The last time the Cougars and Islanders faced off in the playoffs was the first round in the 2015-2016 season. That year the Cougars swept the Islanders in 4 games. That same year Nathan Looysen scored 101 points in 45 games to lead the league in scoring. The very next season he went on to play for the Grizzlies of the BCHL, then to Brock University.
This season the Cougars won the season series 6-3, but the Islanders gave the Cougars one of the biggest challenges of the year. All 3 Islander wins came at home. The Cougars may hold home-ice, but if the Islanders steal a game in the Arch the series could get challenging for the top team in the South.
The top scorers for the Cougars are Ethan Roworth (26g – 40a – 66pts), Jackson Estey (33g – 28a – 61pts), and Ben Brant (18g – 36a – 52pts).
The top scorers for the Islanders are Logan Walker (21g – 29a – 50pts), Brady Estabrook (22g – 24a – 46pts), and jackson Egan (18g – 25a – 43pts).
The Cougars goaltenders sit 2 and 3 in the league after the regular season. Fraser Wyatt ended with 19 wins and a 2.55GAA/.913%, Jonah Chambers had 21 wins with a 2.61GAA/.910%.
Dryden Demelo for the Islanders finished with 12 wins and a 3.72GAA/.893%.
