Cougars Fall In A Shootout

Story by Tom Arlidge

All the games these days seem to be like a playoff game. The Cougars opened the scoring last night on the power play with Jackson Estey beating Wolves goalie Jacob Haydar from the top of the crease. The goal came at 4:46 of the first with assists going to Chase Barlow and Connor DeLay. Before that goal the Cougars game up a couple of breakaways that Jonah Chambers made big saves on. Blake Bentham tied the game at 17:55 taking the puck into the Cougars zone and releasing a hard wrist shot from the high slot and beating Chambers high blocker side. Assist was to Ben Ackinclose.

At 5:14 of the Connor Delay passed the puck behind the Wolves net to Aiden Turner who found Jacob Pang at the side of the net and the puck was in the back of the Wolves net. At 7:38 Quintyn Sidaway took a pass from Adam Gordon and went down the left wing and released a wrist shot while cutting to the middle that found the back of the net and tied the game at 2. At 10:17 the Wolves took a 3-2 lead with Ethan Mittelsteadt scoring from the point on the PP with assists to Isaac Leik and Kobe Knowles. At 18:46 Estey tied the game when Ethan Roworth knocked the puck off a Wovles defenders stick to Ben Brant who fed Estey for the goal. The final goal of the period would go to Angus Allchin at 19:25. He took a rebound in the slot and beat Chambers glove side. Assists went to Akinclose and Nick Hovde.

In the third the only scoring came at 10:21 on the PP when Roworth tipped a Brody Johnston point shot past Haydar. The second assist went to Ben Brant. The teams finished tied and after the 5 minute 3 on 3 overtime they were still tied so off to a shoot out.

Jackson Estey was the only Cougar to score while Elijah Goyer and Blake Bentham were able to score and win the game for the Wolves.

Players of the game were Estey for the Cougars and Ethan Mittelsteadt for the Wolves.

The Cougars are back in action Friday night at 7:30 at Panorama Arena to take on their arch rival Peninsula Panthers.
The next home game is Sunday 3:30pm at the Arch taking on these same Westshore Wolves.
