Cougars And Wolves; Battle Of The Top Two In The South

The Cougars have lost twice coming into their fourth contest against the Wolves this year. One of those two loses came at the hands of the Wolves. In the one game since that loss the Cougars dropped the Wolves 5-1 just last week. The Cougars know the Wolves can beat them, and the Wolves want revenge.

The stamina advantage went to Victoria though. They had a week off while the Wolves played the Storm last night. Westshore won that game, but it took extra time to do it and the Cougars were hoping the Storm wore out the Wolves in the process.

The Cougars didn’t take much time to get the scoring started either. Piche took a pretty pass from Johnston out front for his 4th on the year just 3:04 into the game. Barlow would double up the score 3 and a half minutes later on a low shot that found its way in with a crowd out front.

In the middle frame Ben Brant would get his 11th goal of the year and 1st short-handed goal when he tipped a beauty pass off a face-off in the Wolves zone. Strange would get his 9th after whacking in a lose puck out front on a scramble and the Cougars looked to be cruising to a solid victory.

The Wolves didn’t sit back. Blake Bentham and Andy Westhaver would score less than 2 minutes apart, one short-handed and one on the power-play, and the Cougars lead is now the dreaded 2. Dylan Franklin would have none of that. Just 31 seconds late he puts home a tip on the Ty Brant shot and the Cougars would go up 5-2. The Wolves would not get any closer. Franklin would get another one late and Piche would score the final goal with just seconds to go and the Cougars would finish this contest 7-2.
