Cougars And Predators, Deja Vu.

The Cougars and Predators have played twice this season, less than 2 weeks apart. In both contests the Cougars have completely thumped the visiting team from Saanich 8-0.

Saanich was the better team for the first 10 minutes of the first contest but it’s be entirely Cougars in the last 5 and a half periods. In the second game the Cougars played a complete 60 minutes. With four 20 year olds out of the lineup with various ailments the young guns got a chance to shine. Mark Castilla, Nathan Bouveur, Ty Brant, and Zach Piche all had stand out games. Piche even collected his first Junior goal. Jackson Estey, who is 1/3rd of the scoring powerhouse line including Ben Brant and Ethan Roworth, had his best Junior game to date. For the first time he scored 5 points. 1 goal and 4 assists on the night. His line-mates both had 2 points.

Fraser Wyatt moved to 4-0 on the year and collected his 2nd shutout of the season. Both times against Saanich. Backstopping a game that is clearly tilted in your favour is hard for a keeper when you can goal 10 minutes without a shot, more than once. You can get complacent and cold. Wyatt didn’t, he was sharp all night, even if he wasn’t overly busy Sunday afternoon. Wyatt now has the leagues best GAA of 1.00, and a SV% of .959. He is also the only goalie with 2 shutouts.

The Cougars now have Monday and Tuesday off before playing 3 games in 3 nights. Westshore on Wednesday on the road, back home Thursday versus Kerry Park, then on the road again against for this very same Saanich team. That will be an interesting contest. Can Saanich take advantage of the possibly tired Cougars? Or will it be 3 games in a row the Cougars take it to the Predators?
