Six Cougars collected points and Evan Easton scored at 12:02 of the 2nd period to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. That goal would be the game winner in their 4th game in 5 days, and 6 total points out of a possible 8.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead 6 minutes into the game when Logan Speirs was left alone on a beauty passing play. That was only the 2nd shot of the game for the Panthers, but they would only manage 6 more shots for the rest of the 1st and 2nd periods.
The entire game was intense. This game felt like a game 7. After a couple lackluster games earlier in the week the Cougars came out to play against their bitter rival from Peninsula. After the Panthers goal the Cougars held almost the entirety of the play for most of the first 2 periods. Jackson Egan capped of a fast paced 1st with a gritty goal with only 55 seconds left on the clock.
The 3rd saw the Panthers ramp up the come-back attempt after getting out-played in the first 2 periods. They still had a tough time getting the puck to the net. But they didn’t sit on their heels by any means, the Cougars just played hard hitting hockey and kept the puck to the outside. But, with only 7 shots on net in the final frame the Panthers still had a couple good scoring chances and Brett Anderson had to be sharp making a couple fantastic saves. The Cougars defence also stepped up and played a complete 60 minutes. The Cougars now lead the season series 4-3.
It is very likely that these two teams will face each-other in the second round of the play-offs baring any upsets. I for one, am looking forward to it.Follow the Cougars on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram.
