Cougars Look To Get Back To Their Winning Ways

The Cougars travelled the short distance to Pearkes Arena in to take on the red hot Saanich Braves.

The Braves are on a 3 game winning streak after beating the Buccaneers last night 7-3 up in Nanaimo.

The Braves started off the scoring at the 6:36 mark with Jack Groves on a 2 on 1 with Graeme Getty. Getty slid the puck to Groves in the high slot and he one timed it past Cougars starting goalie Brett Anderson. The second assist went to Brayden Flynn. The Cougars would tie it up when Matt Clark passed the puck from behind his own net to Spencer Golden at centre who then took the puck all the way to the net and slid it 5 hole on Braves goalie Robert Michetti. That goal came at 17:59.
The Braves would regain the lead before the end of the first when Jake Wilhelm picked off a stretch pass and fed Dayton Clarke at the Cougars blue line. Clarke took a shot which was tipped by a Cougars defender and eluded Anderson low glove side. The scoring came at 19:37. A phantom assist was awarded to Evan Abgrall on the play. The Cougars outshot the Braves 22-8 in the period.

At 17:45 of the second the puck was chipped out front of the Saanich net by Evan Easton and Bryce Irwin put it behind Michetti from the slot. Second assist went to Desmond Arthurs. The Cougars dominated the period outshooting the Braves 22-4.

The third was an evenly played period with no scoring and shots 9-9.

In overtime there were a few Cougar chances until Dylan Jessa sent Matt Clark down the ice. The puck got tied up on the side boards and Davis Frank dug it out to Clark who took it to the front of the net and went 5 hole on Michetti for the win.

Players of the game were Robert Michetti for the Braves and Matt Clark for the Cougars.
Up next for the Cougars are the Kerry Park Islanders up in Mill Bay tomorrow night. Puck drop is 7:30pm
