The Cougars are now 5-1 against the Kerry Park Islanders this season. Their only loss coming in their last game against the rivals from the other side of the Malahat. This contest was far different than the last. Victoria dominated basically the entire game.
It didn’t take long for the Cougars to jump out to a lead, only 3:04 into the 1st. Trey Anderson became the eighth Cougars player to reach 10 goals so far this year. More than any other team in the VI. Only a minute and three seconds later Dylan Jessa scored what would become the Game Winning Goal. Bryce Irwin would add a 3rd Cougars goal at the 11 minute mark and the Cougars headed into the first break up a field goal. The shots were 16-4 after 1.
The 2nd period is where the game went completely lopsided. While Cory Mater broke the shutout bid for Brett Anderson only 36 seconds into the period, the Cougars quickly shrugged off the anomaly and went to town on the scoreboard. A total of five goals from the Cougars in the 2nd. Arthurs, Frank, Esposito, Easton, and Egan capped off the rout. Both teams went through the motions just killing the clock in the 3rd period as it looked like both teams wanted to leave the arena without injury or suspensions. Which can happen in a heated game that is that one-sided. Shots finished 51-18 for Victoria in an 8-1 win that saw 8 different scorers.
The Cougars now play 3 games on the road before the winter break. Next up is Saanich tomorrow (13th) at Pearkes, 630pm.
