The Storm travelled to the Arch for the first time this season, and Davis Frank was ready. The Cougars forward is a Campbell River native and former Storm player. But this game turned into the Jonah Chambers show.
The first 5 minutes of the game actually saw the Cougars hold most of the play in the Storm zone, showing very good puck control and gathering a couple scoring chances. But after a few minutes the Storm shook off their bus legs and we ended up with a fast-paced back-and-forth period. The score remained tied at 0 for most of the first, until Evan Easton on the fore-check alone, chased down Storm D-man Jake Boxer, picked his pocket, and buried his 5th of the year at 12:24. Then with Jackson Egan in the sin bin, the Storm in the offensive zone, Matt Clark picked off a pass, and the fastest skater in the league was off to the races with Davis Frank right beside him on a 2 on 0 breakaway shorthanded. Clark, with the ultra classy move passed the puck to the former Storm player, and Frank made no mistakes. Snagging his 7th goal of the year.
The 2nd period was just as fast and frantic as the 1st, but with the Storm in full control. Lee Stone obviously said something to fire up the Storm after the 1st period. The boys in black and silver peppered Jonah Chambers with multiple scoring chances, but the Calgary native kept the door shut. Then at 16:09 Bryce Irwin completely against the flow of the game made it 3-0 on a wicked snip shot low blocker side. His 2nd of the year.
The third was more intense action both ways with the Storm pressing hard. Chambers still showed his brilliance stopping several more scoring chances. But with the Cougars in the box, and a failed clearing attempt by Victoria allowed Brenden Murray to break what should have been a Chambers Shutout. Late in the 3rd the play started getting rough. Lots of chippy play both ways highlighted by Knute Loe swinging his stick violently at Zach Guerra. The Cougars held on for the win, mostly thanks to Jonah Chambers.
Next up for Victoria is a road trip to Comox on Friday. 730pm start.
Players of the game
