The Cougars coaches staff has kept busy in the off-season to fill gaps for next year. The Victoria Cougar’s would like to welcome Carson Jones, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native, for the 2019-2020 season. With players potentially moving up to Junior A next season and school commitments the coaching staff felt they needed to continue to work hard to keep consistency in their bid to repeat as VIJHL Champions.
“Winning in this league has become very difficult to do,” said Head Coach Suneil Karod. “There’s parity in the league and everyone is working 12 months of the year to try and win. When you’re recruiting against good coaches and organizations you compete for the same players. You win some, you lose some and I think with Carson Jones we won big.” The 5’11” 180lbs power forward is a smart, skilled explosive player that will fit well with the Cougars high octane offence. Jones spent the last 2 season in the USHS in Minnesota playing for Eden Prairie High. In 28 games Jones recorded 27 points.
“We’re expecting Jones to fill the absence left by Vanuden,” continued Karod. “Having spent time getting to know the family and watching Carson play, I think he’s poised to be a great player in our league.”
The cougars are definitely reloading for a run to defend their title in a league that has become very skilled and exciting to watch no matter which two teams are playing. Watch our social media and stay tuned for more commitment announcements in the near future.
