Victoria Cougar players Matteo Albinati and Foster Martin aka Celly took part in today’s press conference at Bear Mountain Arena for the Road to the World Juniors. Foster donned the Mascot outfit of Celly the Spirit Bear and Matteo represented the Cougars rubbing elbows with the Premier, Honourable John Horgan. Other dignitaries present were BC Hockey CEO Barry Petrachenko along with 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship Executive Director, Riley Wiwchar, and the Honourable Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Also taking part was Terry Honer, Principal of David Cameron Elementary School, which was one of the schools participating.
After the speeches and presentation of Team Canada jerseys to the Premier and the Minister it was time for some floor hockey.
Celly aka Foster Martin was in net and stoned the Premier on his first 6 or 7 shots. Minister Beare also got into the act along with Matteo and Cameron Elementary School student and Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey player Jace Martin.
After the shoot-out Matteo was interviewed by CTV and Celly high fived numerous people.
I think the highlight for the two Cougars was after when they were able to get their pictures with TSN’s Mark Masters. A few minutes later veteran Hockey analyst Bob McKenzie came in and another photo opp presented itself.
The Cougars as an organization are proud of these two and the whole team for their involvement in this and many other community activities this season.
We hope everyone enjoys an exciting and successful World Junior Hockey Championship.Follow the Cougars on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram.
