After a crazy four home games in a row, where the Cougars downed Comox, Kerry Park, Peninsula, and Oceanside, the Cougars faced the top team in the league and walked away with their seventh win in a row overall.
Saanich only lost their first regulation game of the season last week. Most people expected them bounce back with a vengeance. It looked that way in the early parts of the game. Saanich pressured hard for the first two periods but the outstanding play from Owen Sikkes in net kept the game knotted at zeros until late in the 2nd. In the waning seconds of a Cougars penalty the Braves finally solved the stellar Cougars tendy. The momentum was in the Braves corner heading into the third.
That all changed only a few minutes into the period where Kevan McBean ripped a wrist shot five hole on Cheyne and tied the game. For the rest of the period the Braves tried pouring it on pounding the Cougars net with 16 shots, but Sikkes made 16 saves. Two more goals from Foster Martin and Booker Chacalias sealed the deal for Victoria.
Sikkes made 40 saves for his third win in three starts. Chacalias collected two points to sit second in league scoring and Albinati grabbed another point to extend his lead on top of the scoring race. He has 28 points in 17 games and a 8 point lead.
Victoria now sits on top of the VIJHL with 38 points and another game tomorrow at home. The Panthers come back to the Arch for a 330pm puck drop.Follow the Cougars on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram.
