Cougars kick off the 2018/2019 campaign against Comox, Thursday at 7pm

It’ll be a new look Cougars Thursday against the Glacier Kings. Suneil Karod and company have been hard at work this off season putting together a solid roster after a disappointing end to last year, falling in the first round of the Playoffs to the Wolves in 7 games.

Adding a whole host of new talent, some from the VIJHL and some from elsewhere in Canada, the Cougars looked sharp in their ‘Invite Only’ main camp this year.

Not only have the Cougars added new talent, but a new captain, and new Dark Sweaters. Carl Ewert, a Cougars veteran has taken the reigns as the Captain for his final year in Junior Hockey. Brody Coulter, GM of the Cougars and former Cougars captain himself, had this to say about Carl taking over as captain.

“Carl is a competitor. He’s never outworked, he’s never out battled and I can’t think of a better personality to be a leader in our dressing room. He leads by example and because of that, I think you are going to see a very hard working group of guys on the ice this season.”

The new dark uniforms that the team debuted in the same video as the one that introduced Carl Ewert as captain have been received very positively. You can see the video for your self, it’s been viewed over 10,000 times at this writing, by going to our social media, TwitterInstagramFacebook.

These uniforms take inspiration from some classic, and some modern sweaters. The body of the uniform borrows from the new NHL franchise the Vegas Golden Knights, while the striping pays homage to the classic 90’s Vancouver Canucks. The logo is a modern take on the original Cougars Logo that the team wore when they defeated the Montreal Canadiens to win the Stanley Cup in 1925. Also, new this year we will be selling replica’s of the new Sweaters at all of our home games. If you can’t make a home game, or want to check out other Cougars merchandise head to our online store at victoriacougars.com/shop. Unfortunately the sweaters are only available at home games at this time.

The Cougars went 3-1 against the Glacier Kings last year, but like every year, junior hockey is a whole new team each and every season.

Puck drop is 7pm at the Archie Browning Arena located at 1151 Esquimalt Road.
