Last night the Cougars kicked off the 2018/2019 season with a tone setting 7-2 win against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. Booker Chacalias lead the charge with a hat-trick in his Cougars debut. Kevan McBean and Mateo Albinati also chipped in with 3 points each, and a total of 7 Cougars players had a multi-point night.
Last night was a good way to go about forgetting about last season. 4 for 5 on the PP and 7 goals was a stark contrast to the Cougars disappointing goal production and power play numbers from a year ago. Coming in 7th overall in PP production with only 12.88% was a dramatic drop from the Cougars of years gone bye who are well known for their solid special teams. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, even if it was only one game.
On the topic of solid PP numbers, 2 years ago the Cougars lead the league in special teams, and Tyler Vanuden was instrumental in that production. Today, the Alberni Valley Bull Dogs announced today that he’s been named captain.
