The Victoria Cougars continue to fulfill their commitment to recruit local. The Cougars are happy to announce that they have signed highly sought after local forward Spencer Golden.
The 2000 born forward amassed 81 points (45 G, 36 A) in 52 games last season with the Saanich Midget AAA team and led them to the provincials.
“We are very excited about this commitment,” said Cougars General Manager Brody Coulter. “Spencer is a player who brings a high level of hockey IQ, a tremendous scoring ability and a soft touch around the net. This will help what we believe is already a strong forward group. We’ll be looking for Spencer to play a big role in all situations this season.”
The Cougars coaching staff spent time with Golden over the past few months and feel his personality is a great fit for the Cougars.
“I couldn’t be happier or more excited to be joining the Cougars organization,” said Spencer Golden. “I can’t wait to dive into the upcoming season and I’m definitely looking forward to getting on the ice and meeting the guys. It’s a really good feeling coming into an organization with so much winning tradition that works to bring out the best in all of their players.”
This is the second Saanich Midget AAA player the Cougars have committed to this year, Bryce Irwin being the other.
“Both Golden and Irwin will be impact players for us and help our program continue to move forward. We feel we committed to two of the top local players,” said Coulter.
The Victoria Cougars main camp will take place August 17-19 at Westhills.
