ESQUIMALT, B.C. – The Victoria Cougars concluded their preseason schedule on Tuesday night with a 6-2 loss to the Kerry Park Islanders.
Leading the way for Kerry Park was Kayden Peck who registered two goals and two assists.
Chase Anderson was stellar in between the pipes, making 37 saves which included stopping all 15 shots in the middle frame.
After allowing an early Victoria goal, the Islanders managed to shake off the slow start by taking period leads of 2-1 and 5-1.
Scott Smith also added a pair of goals for Kerry Park while Will Connors and Tanner Tiel chipped in with singles.
Replying for the Cougars were Akila Sato-Gaudreau and Shane Kime.
Victoria’s starting goaltender Patrick Ostermann allowed three goals on 18 shots before giving way to rookie Connor McKillop who made 18 saves on 21 shots.
Both teams failed to generate any offense with the man advantage.
Sato-Gaudreau and Smith was involved in a spirited fight midway through the third period.
The Cougars finish the preseason with one win and one loss.
Next game for Victoria is Thursday, September 7 versus the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
