The Victoria Cougars (31-1-0-1) host the Westshore Wolves (19-16-0-1) tonight to open a stretch of three games in three nights.
Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
Mark Van Helvoirt and his troops have been off since December 20 when they beat the Saanich Braves 7-1.
In that contest, Brody Coulter extended his point streak to 30 games following a three goal and one assist performance. Also lighting the lamp were Ben Kinshella, Dane Feeney, David Marshall, and affiliate player Jordan Law.
Evan Roch made 13 saves for his league leading 20th win.
Coulter, who has 28 goals and 61 assists, is 11 points away from hitting the century mark. The last time a player from the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League registered 100 points or more in a season was Jason Jaques of the Campbell River Storm who did it back in 2003. Jaques recorded 104 points that year.
Victoria has 15 games remaining on its schedule.
Following their tilt against Westshore, the Cougars will hit the road with stops in Saanich and Nanaimo.
Thursday’s game marks the seventh of eight regular season meetings between the Wolves and Victoria.
In sole possession of first place in the South Island Division, the Cougars hold a 13 point lead over the second place Braves who have one game in hand.
Last night, Westshore let a 4-1 lead against the North Island Division leading Nanaimo Buccaneers slip away before losing 5-4.
Garrett Dunlop ended the game with his second goal at the 38 second mark of overtime.
The Wolves are now 8-3-0-0 in one goal games.
Kyle Richter, who leads all Westshore players in points, scored twice and added an assist.
With the one point, the Wolves increased their lead in the South Island Division over the Peninsula Panthers to one point. However, Peninsula has played two fewer games.
